The Patterns We Repeat
We've all had that moment—the moment when you find yourself in another frustrating situation. Instead of slipping into the same familiar pattern again, pause and ask yourself this: "what is it about myself that keeps attracting these same situations?" What keeps repeating in your life is usually not the situation—it's the pattern you haven't yet named.
Surrounded by dominating individuals—people who push boundaries and always have the need to be right. People who cannot take accountability for their actions, where it always ends up being someone else's fault.
When you try to bring up times they've hurt you, it can feel like they're living in a completely different universe.
These behaviors are toxic and beyond exhausting. The hardest part is that, a lot of the time, these behaviors can be hard to identify—especially if you've been conditioned to accept them.
When these patterns kept showing up, I had to ask myself that hard question—and here's what I learned.
I grew up around very controlling and dominating dynamics, and I believe that shaped the kinds of people I later found myself drawn to. Over time, those familiar patterns felt normal—even expected. When I'm with someone who has that same type of personality, I can sense the discomfort inside of me, but I often override it. Instead of sitting with that feeling, I cave into it. I don't want to feel the tension of being challenged, whether it's someone questioning my ideas, telling me how to live my life, or inserting their opinions over my own. So i would shrink, adjust, and go along to avoid the discomfort.
Now that I've acknowledged my story, I refuse to stay stuck in it. I chose to educate myself about toxic behaviors, narcissistic personality disorder, different forms of abuse, manipulation, and control. Along the way, I discovered something life-changing: knowledge truly is power. And that's why I'm here—to share what I've learned in hopes that it helps someone else recognize the patterns, reclaim their voice, and begin their own journey toward healing. This is my journey of empowerment...finding peace, one piece at a time.
